Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v (/fɛw/ /kes/ [buffalo] [gay; homosexual]) is a subtropical City located in the Zåkräf Region of the Tetburland.

The name Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v is derived from the Goblin language, as Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v was founded by Me, who was culturaly Tauran.

Climate

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a yearly average temperature of 28°C (82°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 33°C (91°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 24°C (75°F). Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v receives an average of 274 cm/y (107 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v covers an area of nearly 30 km² (12 mi²), and an average elevation of 3558 m (11673 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v was founded durring the late 15th century in summer of the year 1361, by Me. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v was built using the conventions of Tauran durring the late 15th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v is buildings are built arround a single narrow gravel mainstreet which forms a counterclockwise spiral to give the city a over all circular shape. The city posesses a mighty albit amaturly crafted stone wall. It was built using querried stone blocks and posesses all of the standard defencive features, including a few watch towers. While it would last against a siege, the wall's outdated and simplistic construction method percludes the possability of Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v weathering a full scale bombardment durring a siege. Astonishigly, the budget focused millitary grade defenses are in pristine condishion, as if they had just been finished before you laied eyes upon them.

Your first impression of Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v proves to be right on the money. This city is where the rebels chose to settle. Fashion trends are quite simply the opposite of what’s popular in the other nearby communities. THis trend extends everywhere. Things that should be black are white, what would normally be square is organically curved, and what is typically unthinkable for polite society is more than welcome in this public square. Up to the logical limits, of course. There’s no flaying someone alive to eat their skin going on, but the women are dressed a little immodestly, the men are a little more emotional, and the food is all overly complex and terrible.

They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's parks.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the City. Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a library, which keeps a large collection of books, scrolls, and archives all manner of physical items. While not open to the public, the librarians and scholars employed by the library will assist anyone with their research needs, and wealthy individuals can purchase membership to access the library's materials themselves. In spite of being generally closed to the public, the library has a room with several Aether Linked devices available to the public during business hours.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's natural decorations nor waterways.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v is home to a University which provides higher education in a variety of fields, and also serves as a research institute for those same fields.

Cultural Notes

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's locals despise outsiders. For some “outsiders” may be natives of foreign lands, while others might have a grudge against anyone from outside the community. These locals have an active loathing, and the outsiders allowed to trade or interact with them do so at a heavy disadvantage.

Fèwkes Ji̊ Qi̊v's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is which made use of the classical orders and mathematically precise ratios of height and width combined with a desire for symmetry, proportion, and harmony. It used columns, pediments, arches and domes are imaginatively in buildings of all types. Decorative features were seen as largely unnecessary as the sheer beauty of the structure itself was often close to art. However, many buildings with large ceiling spaces had their ceilings decorated with elaborate paintings, simply because the large flat spaces could feel wasted.
